Employee ownership models and cooperative businesses offer a solution to rising income inequality while simultaneously enriching local economies. Businesses that adopt an employee ownership model contribute to a thriving local economy by providing employees with stable incomes and jobs while ensuring that the wealth of employees increases alongside the growth and wealth of the business.
CCWB is currently working with a number of startup, worker-owned cooperatives to improve the economic wellbeing of low-income, BIPOC workers. We provide support to start-up and existing co-ops to help them launch and grow their worker-owned businesses. We also work with our anchor institution partners to identify which of their current contracts held by multinational corporations could be shifted to a local worker-owned business, resulting in building community wealth and closing the racial wealth gap – values that place-based institutions, also known as anchor institutions, are increasingly embracing.
